Son of a GUN !!! I got my lathe with the upgrade pre-installed. Whoever did it - put the chuck too close to the motors and I cannot get the belt off without taking the entire thing apart ! What a hassle. The pulley's NEVER lined up .. the chuck will not stay locked on the blank - I have to use a heavy rubber band to hold it closed (this was a suggestion from the retailer I bought it from - as - it's "common" .. ) I am in the middle of building a crap load of rods - blanks from NFC and BATSON and LAMIGLASS - but - my belt is sort of frayed .. I think because of the miss alignment of the pulleys. I have had the lathe for a few years .. but - everytime I ask a question - I get a "jerry - rigged" fix ... aaaaargh .. I hope everyone gets a better one than I got !!!!

What epoxy do your recommend for extending butt sections? Thread Epoxy? Or Epoxy I would use for Grips and Reel Seats?

Hello to Mickey, I remember when he used to come around in his car. We set up the back of our shop as a rod building class room. We bought all of our wrapping machines and a fair amount of grips & components from him. I hope he is still doing well. It was good to see him on this video. I found an old school 10"6' blank(the old green ones) on ebay for one of my first rod builds. You guys wrapped that carbon thick back then. The bank has a perfect action for a salmon bobber rod but felt tip heavy with the reel seat at 14". Slid it all the way up to 18" and viola! A beutifully balanced rod. I'm sure the new blanks are lighter these days, but my lesson was that you can make a terrible rod out of a great blank if you dont spend the time to make the hardware function ideally with it.

I only started fly fishing in the last 3 years and I didn't realize how much actually goes into one of these rods.

The RX10 is my favorite blank for jigging walleye to date!! 7'2" medium fast. I've been a huge Phenix guy so far in my building career but the Batson products are really changing my outlook on blanks!!
